gong healing

Gong baths and gong bath therapy are not a new alternative healing modality. On the contrary, the Gong has been used longer than any other instrument for holistic Sound healing.

The gong clears and balances the energetic meridians, releases tension, blockages, stills the mind and brings the body in to a space of deep healing. The vibration of the gong is not only heard through the ears but felt through our bodies, affecting us at the deepest cellular levels.

how does it work?

From a scientific point of view, the healing power of gongs derives from a natural phenomenon known as entrainment – entraining or synchronizing the body to a certain sound. Entrainment occurs when the powerful vibrations of one object actually change the less powerful vibrations of another object.

Entrainment was first discovered in 1665 by Dutch scientist Christian Huygens. He set up a room full of pendulum clocks with their pendulums swinging at slightly different times. When he returned to the room the next day, he found the sway of the pendulums had all synchronized.

 As gongs are sounded, the powerful rhythmic vibrations resonate throughout the body.  The sound of these harmonic vibrations stimulates the alpha and theta brain waves associated with deep meditative and peaceful states that are highly conducive to healing. They also slow down the heart and respiratory rate, creating a therapeutic effect upon mind and body. When the brain waves and body are synchronized, balance can be restored and stress released.

impact on cancer cells

In the early 80’s Fabien Maman, a French musician, acupuncturist and bio-energetician, devoted one and a half years studying the effects of sound on human cells. Experimenting with various acoustic sounds including the human voice, gong, acoustical guitar and xylophone, he found the vibrations actually transformed the cell structure.

The human voice produced the most dramatic results – exploding cancer cells and energizing healthy ones; however, the rich overtones of the gong being played for 21 minutes also caused the cancer cells to disintegrate and ultimately explode.  Pretty Amazing!

your peace of mind

But the Yogis have long known their power, including the impact on the mind –

 “The gong is the first and last instrument for the human mind.  There is only one thing that can supersede and command the human mind-the sound of the gong. It is the first sound in the universe, the sound that created this universe.  It is the basic creative sound.  To the mind, the sound of the gong is like a mother and father that gave it birth. The mind has no power to resist a gong that is well played.” Yogi Bhajan

private gong healing/meditation/bath

What’s involved?

You lie down, feet directed to the Gong and get comfortable (using something comfy to lie on eg blow up bed, bed roll, sheepskin yoga mat, a blanket, & eye mask), and wear loose clothing. You will be guided into a relaxed state using breathing and gentle stretches, and then the Gong playing begins.

You are bathed in Sacred Sound. Then Silence.

You will then be gently guided out with the gentle sounds of the Tongue Drum & Koshi wind chimes, and back to the room. There is no rush to leave, you just relax for a while after that.

Experiences vary. Afterwards many people just feel great, relaxed, blissed out, at peace, light, present.
